eduroam on macOS

Prerequisite: You need an active internet connection (mobile data or home Wi-Fi) and a web browser.

Supported versions

For security reasons, we only support operating systems that still receive security updates from the vendor (no "End of Life", see endoflife.date). This guide applies to macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later.

You can find your macOS version via the Apple menu → About This Mac.

What you need

Step 1: Download the configuration profile

  1. Open your browser on your Mac.
  2. Go to cat.eduroam.org.
    Alternatively, you can download the ready-made profile directly from our website.
  3. Click "Click here to download your eduroam installer".
  4. Select FH Münster from the list.
  5. Click Apple iOS / macOS and allow the download of the profile (.mobileconfig).

Step 2: Install the profile

  1. Open System Settings on your Mac.
  2. Select Privacy & Security in the left sidebar and scroll to the very bottom to Profiles (or type "Profiles" in the System Settings search field).
  3. Double-click the downloaded eduroam profile.
  4. Click Install and confirm the security warning with OK.

Step 3: Enter your credentials & confirm

  1. Enter your FH credentials in the pop-up window:
    • User ID: username@fh-muenster.de
    • Password: your FH password
  2. Confirm the installation by entering your Mac user password (macOS security prompt).

Step 4: Connect to eduroam

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar at the top right.
  2. Select the network eduroam.
  3. The connection is established automatically using the credentials stored in the profile.

Common issues & solutions

The profile cannot be installed

If an old eduroam profile is already on your Mac, the installation will fail.

Solution: Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles, select the old eduroam profile and remove it with the minus button (-). Then restart the installation.

"Invalid password"
  • Check that you added the suffix @fh-muenster.de to your user ID.
  • After a password change: remove the old profile (see above) and run this guide again.

Done!

The setup of eduroam on your Mac is complete.
